(Aurora, CO ) – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Coffman (R – Aurora) urged the President to sign the 2016 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Passed by Congress earlier this month, the NDAA remains under threat of Presidential veto.

“The NDAA provides essential pay and benefits to the men and women serving in our nation’s military,” said Coffman.  “This bill, passed by both the House and Senate, not only meets the President’s full request for the national security budget, but it also funds critical functions at Buckley.”

“Mr. President, stop playing politics with our National Defense and sign NDAA,” declared Coffman.

According to Coffman, “Restructured retirement benefits for troops, greater protections against sexual assault in the military, and new cyber security defense funding are among the most important authorizations in NDAA 2016.”

Also included in the NDAA is language to prevent the transfer of GITMO detainees to U.S. soil. “This week, a delegation from the Administration is surveying potential locations for GITMO detainees in Colorado.  I remain adamantly opposed to this move and support the language in the NDAA. There is absolutely no reason to close the Guantanamo Bay detention camp only to finance the incarceration of enemy combatants with the U.S.”

Coffman continued, “I urge the President to fund our troops and sign NDAA into law.”
