U.S. Representative Mike Coffman (R-Aurora) issued the following statement today in response to Chairman Miller’s letter to the VA regarding continued funding for the Aurora VA hospital.

“My highest priority is funding the Aurora VA hospital. We owe this to our veterans.

The VA's severe mismanagement of this project is the reason why it is over budget and overdue. Nonetheless, I’m confident that we will honor our promises to our veterans and find the funds to keep workers on the job and finish this project.

Unfortunately, as the Chairman points out, the latest proposal from the VA appears to divert some funding away from the medical care for our veterans. The Chairman has appropriately asked the VA to better explain how its proposal will pay for the hospital without compromising veteran health care, and I look forward to VA’s explanation.

I am pleased that we do have a concrete proposal from VA before us and remain confident that, after further discussions, we will find the budget dollars necessary to complete this project.”

U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman is chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee for House Veterans Affairs and is a U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran.
