Coffman lauds health clinicThe Brighton Standard BladeU.S. Rep. Mike Coffman (R-Aurora) is a proponent of the Audrey C. Farley Women’s Center at Salud Family Health Centers, 30 S. 20thAve., which he visited on July 1. Coffman said he’s “such a fan” of what community health centers do in terms of providing care for low-income and uninsured people. He said he believes that community health centers like Salud Family Health Centers are more efficient than traditional care choices.Since the Audrey C. Farley Women’s Center opened in January 2015, it has provided primary care health services to women, including family medicine, prenatal care, cancer screenings, and 24-hour, on-call care. Coffman said he meets frequently with workers at Salud Family Health Centers. He said doing so helps him do his work in Washington D.C., since many requests that come before Congress involve funding for various programs he says “are subtle in nature.” “It gives me the information to be able to go back to Washington and go to bat for (my constituents) – to my colleagues – in terms of what I know is happening in these communities,” Coffman said. Development Director Jennifer Morse said staffers at the center have valued and appreciated Coffman’s support over the years. “We have a very amiable relationship with the congressman, so it’s almost like having a friend stop by,” Morse said. Coffman was honored with the Distinguished Community Health Advocate award through the National Association of Community Health Centers in March for supporting federal funding for community health centers. Congressman Coffman represents the 6th Congressional District of Colorado. His seat is up for re-election in November. His opponent is Democratic State Sen. Morgan Carroll. Salud Family Health Centers was founded in 1970 in Fort Lupton. Today, workers operate nine communities in northern Colorado and serve more than 74,000 patients every year. |
