The small businesses in my congressional district consistently ask me to make the federal government’s policies more like Colorado’s. The pro-growth policies in this state have made it one of the best for small businesses in the country. That may soon change. On Election Day, Colorado voters face two ballot measures – one for a state-run healthcare system and one for a dramatic minimum wage increase -- these could transform Colorado from one nation’s most business-friendly states to one of the ... A modest development to solve a post-War housing shortage, Hoffman Heights may soon be the hottest brand going for well-paid Anschutz workers. The nearly 1,700 single-family houses built after World War II in Hoffman Heights, in north Aurora, once served military families on the Fitzsimons Medical Hospital and Lowry Air Force Base. Now the quaint homes sit a mile from the booming Anschutz Medical Campus and two light rail stations that will open as part of the Interstate 225 line next year. Aur... Read more

President Barack Obama says it’s time to turn the page after years of economic hardship at home and wars overseas. But Republicans in charge of Congress say the voters already took care of that last November — and they’re the proof. “Much of what he did tonight … new taxes, new spending is sort of the same old thing that we’ve heard over the last six years,” said newly installed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, not long after the president wrapped up a State of the Union spee... Stop-gap solutions, continuing resolutions and government shutdowns are too quickly becoming a habit in Washington as lawmakers face fiscal crises and increasingly tight budgets. As Congress heads back to work this week, they are faced with a stack of appropriations bills to deal with before the end of the session. As Congress looks for ways to move (and pay for) these bills, it is critical that lawmakers start by acting upon countless federal budget savings opportunities sitting on the table. ... Read more
