Congressman Mike Coffman and Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan are scheduled to be among the well-wishers who will send a 16-person student contingent from the Community College of Aurora to the National Model United Nations Conference at a send-off ceremony March 12 at the CentreTech Student Rotunda.

CCA will be one of just three community colleges participating among 400 universities from across the globe, who will wrestle with some of the toughest issues facing the world today during the March 21-27 event in New York.

CCA – attending the conference for the first time – will represent Ethiopia, which is aligned with the City of Aurora’s designation as a Sister City with Adama, Ethiopia. CCA’s Model UN program stands alone among Colorado community colleges and started in 2013 after a 38-year statewide hiatus.

Among the attendees at the national conference will be a former UN refugee and translator in a UN camp juxtaposed with concurrent enrollment high school students, all of whom will be getting the chance of a lifetime, thanks to corporate and individual donations and a commitment to immersive learning.
