There is no question that climate change is real and is a factor that negatively impacts our global environment. The U.S. must take all practical efforts to reduce carbon emissions through conservation and improve the quality of our global environment. I am a strong supporter of research on renewable energy solutions though my support for full funding of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden.  At NREL, research is done on energy conservation and on how to make renewable energy sources more cost competitive with conventional fuel sources.

I’m also working on legislation that would integrate trade policy with environmental policy.  Regulations, necessary to safeguard our environment, have resulted in higher production costs for U.S. manufacturers driving jobs overseas to countries that have no environmental standards who produce the same goods once made in America. The United States must use its trade policy to hold other countries to comparable environmental standards to help improve our global environment and to promote “fair trade”.
