There is no question that climate change is real and a factor that negatively impacts our environment. The U.S. should take all practical efforts to reduce carbon emissions and improve the quality of our global environment. I have consistently supported an all-of-the-above energy strategy and I will continue to do so. I have voted to appropriate Federal dollars to research renewable energy solutions that are not only beneficial to our environment but also to make them become cost competitive with traditional fuel sources.

The United States has made extraordinary gains in reducing carbon emissions. Unfortunately doing so can cause an increase in the cost of manufacturing goods in this country. As a result, one of the greatest American exports in the past decade has been U.S. based manufacturing jobs to countries that have virtually no environmental standards or concerns about reducing carbon emissions.

The United States must use its trade policy to penalize countries which lack basic environmental standards to not only encourage them to help the global environment but also ensure that our efforts to protect the environment do not make American manufacturing uncompetitive.
