The issues pertaining to K-12 public education are best left to state legislatures and locally-elected school boards and should not be mandated out of Washington, D.C.

When it comes to federal funds for K-12 education, the federal government should set uniform eligibility criteria that are equally applied to all school districts. Too often grants are made to politically-favored school districts.  I support tougher criteria for student loans for post-secondary education, with a greater emphasis on technical and skills-based training, because too many students are encouraged to earn college degrees in subject areas that do not lead to a job that will pay a living wage and enable these graduates to pay back their student loans.
