Healthcare reform must be about protecting those with preexisting conditions, lowering the cost of quality health care through transparency and competition, and providing a safety net for the uninsured and underinsured. I am a strong advocate in Congress for the full funding for Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) like our local Metro Community Provider Network, based in Aurora, and Salud Family Health Centers, based in Brighton. These are community-based health care clinics that receive federal funds, to provide primary care services in underserved areas.
In the small group market, we should allow small businesses to band together for the purchase of health insurance so they can get the same discounts that large corporations receive. In the individual market, we need to protect those with preexisting conditions by making sure they have affordable access to health care providing tax incentives for everyone who purchases health insurance on their own.
