Coffman Statement on DoD Investigation into Marines United Facebook Group

Mar 16, 2017
Press Release

Washington, D.C. —  U.S. Representative Mike Coffman (CO-06), Chairman of the House Armed Services Military Personnel Subcommittee, made the following statement following a briefing this morning on the ongoing DoD investigation into social media group used to distribute nude photos of female service personnel:

“The revelation that non-consensual nude photographs of service members were posted to social media, accompanied by lewd and denigrating comments, is both abhorrent and unacceptable.  This repugnant behavior strikes at the very heart of the Marine Corps, undermining the trust and confidence that Marines have in each other, and compromising the respect the American public has for the Marine Corps,” said Chairman Coffman. Adding,  “As a Marine Corps combat veteran, I know the individuals who committed these despicable acts are not emblematic of the vast majority of decent and honorable Marines.  However, the possibility that any Marine would find it acceptable to upload, view or comment on nude photographs of their fellow Marines demonstrates a serious problem that must be fixed.”
